creatures of comfort

i've been a fan of creatures of comfort for a while now, and was pleased to see that they were added to the new york calendar this year. this is a pretty laid back but sometimes kooky line, and i'm really into everything this season. jade lai, the designer behind the line, played around with heavier sweaters and skirts this season, pushing the line a bit further than usual.

the backdrop was an homage to the late louise bourgeois, whose art inspired the fall collection. lai experimented with windowpane grids on boxy topcoats and shifts representing the "sense of entrapment that bourgeois' work evoked," while the eyes scattered on button-ups and other easy pieces were a frequent bourgeois motif.
the muted colours are perfect for fall, and each piece looks just right for layering. i love the eyes on the white dress! spooky and the best amount of kinda whimsy.

OLD HABITS

both juergen teller

i always talk about how i'm going to post more and more often, but i never ever do. i started school in september and now i have even less free time! i've started working on a degree in biology and this will not be my first, i plan on being in school for a very very long time. and it's finally getting cold and feels like the time of year that it is, thanks to daylight savings. i could complain and say that it's hard to wake up while it's still dark out, and drag myself to school to learn about cell division and human anatomy but, while it is hard, i'm so happy to be back being challenged every day that i hardly notice the weather anymore.

things are always going to be hectic, i guess is what i'm trying to say. BUT, it is fall, and fall means capes, leaves, sweaters, boots and tights, which is more my type of weather, and that means that i'm dressing a lot more effortlessly. i'll try to be around more frequently

etsy shops i love pt i

"a little comforting maybe, like somebody's protectively holding onto you." also as a ring!

i thought i would start a new series of shops that i love on etsy! the first shop is datter industries, by the lovely kaye blegvad. every item is handmade in her new home of london, england. as her shop says, datter is the danish word for 'daughter'. it's part 'data', part 'matter'. kaye is also an illustrator (and has a separate account with illustrations available), and tends to make pieces based on stories she creates through a drawing-like process. her drawings and jewelry have the same themes: ritual, the occult, war, weaponry, animals, and talismans.

an eye to watch over you. i have this ring, also available in silver, and i really love it. i get compliments on it daily!
kaye puts effort and care into every item she makes, shipping quickly and making sure your goodie arrives unharmed by sometimes un-careful postal workers. i love the little details and how delicate but sturdy everything is. it's safe to say that i want everything in this shop, and my poor bank account may suffer for it!

this is not a sponsored post.

yohji yamamoto s/s 2010 rtw

i remember when this came out a few years ago, i must have been...18? i have always been super into florals and oxfords/brogues and this was a really exciting show for me to stumble upon. the cutouts, the shoes, the details. the. shoes. reviewers said that this show was too safe and scaled back, throwing the words "risk-free" around. i remember the hair and make-up being not so tame though! i want to wear this collection every day and transform into full flower princess.

i'll be making more of an effort to update and will also be making some changes to the blog as soon as i get over this lame summer cold!  ps, i'm still crying over the shoes.

insta catch-up

picking up some pieces and a book from morgana wallace, hanging out in the roastery at 2% jazz, found orchids in gastown, a warm feeling on main st, every morning at 7 am, that's what i looked like that day, this is a siphon (a vacuum coffee maker that uses a halogen heat source to push the coffee through a filter which creates a super delicate but really awesome flavour) at discovery coffee, the beginnings of a dwarf sunflower, hidden buildings, surprise mini heat waves leads to slurpee drinking on stoops with good friends, a red wheat soft pretzel from fry's, progress, i broke vegan to eat this candied ginger and rhubarb custard crepe at lady marmalade, yesterday's outfit.

vintage dresses, marais usa shoes.

i'm really sorry about never updating pals, these past few weeks have been really big piles of garbage. things are looking up, and i may even have a cool job to tell you all about later. maybe even some real posts!?
